Project Engineer

General Description

Professional Engineer possessing a comprehensive understanding of Civil Engineering as it pertains to Land Development. Familiar with the principles and industry standards within the San Antonio area. Provides direction and supervision to less experienced staff and manages their daily responsibilities to meet project deadlines.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare construction documents and design calculations for civil infrastructure improvements for public and private projects including: local streets, arterials, storm drains, open channels, detention basins, water quality basins, water distribution, sewer collection, etc.
  • Prepare and process subdivision plats in San Antonio and surrounding municipalities
  • Knowledge of construction process as it relates to permitting and surveying requirements
  • Provide project information to interested contractors, developers, and other interested parties
  • Monitor construction progress projects to confirm compliance with specifications and standards
  • Monitor project costs and changes against budget
  • Monitor, specify, review and analyze engineering plans, specifications and reports
  • Review construction and design industry standards
  • Function as point of contact for consultants, contractors, professional and trade organizations, and other government agencies
  • Lead, organize and review the work of subordinate employees
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Physical Requirements

  • Perform bending and reaching to both ground level and overhead
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard and mouse

Working Environment

  • Primarily works indoors in an office environment; however, may be exposed to extreme weather conditions when conducting on-site field work for various engineering projects
  • Subject to safety hazards from working in and around traffic or excavation areas, dust and pollen from construction sites, cramped spaces and poor lighting from underground structures

Licensing/Certifications

  • PE license required
  • If operating a motor vehicle for the purpose of completing job duties, must possess a valid Texas Motor Vehicle Operator’s License
