KFW Engineers Breaks Ground on New Headquarters Building

KFW Engineers & Surveying broke ground Friday on what will become the new headquarters building for the company.

The new headquarters will be located off Paesano's Parkway in Shavano Park, a suburb of Northwest San Antonio. The company's five founding managing partners held a ceremony at the site of their new building Friday morning.

The local civil engineering firm is a San Antonio success story. KFW was founded in 2006 but it quickly outgrew its current headquarters off Huebner Road and opened a satellite office on George Road.

With 93 employees and job postings for 12 more positions, managing partner Steve Krauskopf said the new headquarters building will reunite the company under one roof.

"It's a good problem to have... growing pains," Krauskopf said.

With an estimated completion time of March 2016, the $4.2 million two-story headquarters building will have 30,000 square feet of expandable office space that have enough room to house at least 180 employees.

The new building will also have a Texas Hill Country look with energy-saving features, xeriscaping and recreational areas for employees.

Chesney Morales Architects designed the building while Open Studio Architecture was selected for the interior design and Metropolitan Contracting Company is handling the construction.

Greg Shue with Open Studio Architecture designed both the company's current headquarters building off Huebner Road and the interior of the company's new one in Shavano Park.

"We thought they had elbow room when they moved into their first building but they filled that up in six months," Shue said.

KFW Engineers has a well-rounded portfolio of residential and commercial projects that includes the San Antonio Scorpions soccer stadium as well as several charter and public schools. The company is currently working on a master planned community off IH-35 and Schwab Road in Schertz. Once KFW moves into its new headquarters, the company will launch a public works department.
