Nick Panella Wins 1st Place at UTSA's Fall 2019 Tech Symposium
We are excited to see KFW Intern, Nick Panella, and his teammates take home first place for the Department of Civil Engineering at the UTSA Fall 2019 Tech Symposium.
Congratulations on your Excellence in Engineering Award, Nick!
The UTSA Tech Symposium is a senior capstone presentation arena where students compete on teams for recognition for their year-long engineering projects. These projects are designed for a real-world application so that they may be products of entrepreneurial investment and technological advancement. Teams are given an industry or government sponsor for expertise & guidance, as well as materials & workspaces to turn their project plans into tangible realities.
The projects presentations span across engineering disciplines and are therefore awarded in categories. We were very excited to hear that Nick Panella and his team, NICE Engineers (an acronym for the first letter of each team member's name), earned first place for the Civil Engineering category.
Nick's award winning project titled the Ridge Bar & Grill features two buildings, one a restaurant and the other a bar, connected by an outdoor patio. This team demonstrated advanced civil engineering expertise with placing the project over the Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone in order to demonstrate proper planning & constructon practices common to the reality of building in the San Antonio area. They also incorporated a jellyfish stormwater runoff treatment for ecological and downstream impact mitigation.
Nick, Isiah, Chris A., Chris D., & Erin,
Congratulations on earning your Excellence in Engineering Award. Way to make KFW proud!
