Alex Hernandez - Employee Spotlight

A San Antonio native, Alex Hernandez is a competitive runner, a self-proclaimed superhero fanatic, and an active member of the community. Alex ran 4 years at the University of the Incarnate Word, where he received his degree in Environmental Science before going to the University of Texas at San Antonio. Once he graduated from here, he had a KFW employee recommend him for the position. Currently, he resides in our commercial department as an Engineer in Training and is working towards receiving his Professional Engineer license.
Position: Engineer in Training
Years at KFW: 8 Months
Favorite part about working at KFW: The culture; being able to balance work and life. Also, having team members that are there to help you makes me feel thankful to be a part of the KFW family.
Why did you choose KFW?
I chose civil engineering because it is challenging yet rewarding. You get to think outside the box and work with different people to solve difficult problem.
What do you like most about civil engineering?
I like that civil engineers can transform a place into something where people can work, live, and play. It’s a career that can have an impact for many people.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
Outside of work I like to go running and being outdoors. I still run competitively after running in college. I like running off-road on the trails and my favorite distance is the 10k and half marathon.
When you were younger, what was your dream job, and how does that compare now?
I think that as a kid I wanted to be an astronaut or scientist. I’ve always been interested in anything S.T.E.M related. I decided to go into Engineering because it is a field that implements all of the other S.T.E.M. fields.
Do you have a favorite quote?
“Success isn’t how far you got, but the distance you traveled from where you started” This is one of my favorite running quotes from running legend, Steve “Pre” Prefontaine.
Alejandro's co-workers at KFW said the following:
“Alejandro is extremely diligent, productive, and always ready to help. He is the ultimate team player!” ”
“Alex is never afraid to step up and do the hard tasks on our team. He is always trying to find ways to be useful and is creative when problem-solving. You can always count on him to learn a new skill or take on a challenge with a smile on his face!” ”
“He is a team player and gets the job done.” ”
