Topher was recommended to apply at KFW by his dear friend Ashlee Davison, EIT. After hearing about the positive environment, Topher "HAD to apply here." Previously an Engineering Tech, Topher decided to change career paths from engineering to surveying after meeting Rey Vanegas and Teresa Seidel, RPLS, for KFW Surveying.

Before working at KFW, what was the most unusual or interesting job you've ever had?

As a teenager, I was an assistant to a cabinet maker. The job wasn’t interesting itself but his clients were. He did the wine cellar of coach Popovich’s house and I got to spend a few afternoons with Pop’s family. They were suuuuper nice!

What are your hobbies outside of work?

I have a few… cooking, photography, graphic design, electronic music, writing (I’m looking to publish a series of hard sci-fi short stories) … BUT my most recent hobby is silversmithing!

What is your goal while working at KFW?

My immediate goal is to become an Assistant Project Manager for my team.

If you were not in Surveying, what would you be doing?

Realistically, I would probably be a chef or baker… but my passion is microbiology. (Specifically, I’d love to be a virologist and work in bioinformatics or genetic research. [Side note, CRISPR has introduced new age in genetic research and gene therapy. It’s a relatively young technology but it’s opened up a new set of tools for geneticists. We’re living in an exciting new era where history is literally being made daily, and it would be awesome to be a part of that research and end up the history books.]
