Chris Garza - Employee Spotlight!

During his eight years at KFW, Chris Garza has worked his way up from Intern, later moving onto his role as an EIT and APM, and finally onto Project Manager. Chris continually shows dedication and determination in his projects, as well as selflessness for his team, exemplifying the picture of leadership at KFW.

Before working at KFW, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

I used to work at the Salt Lick Barbeque… I was actually a bus boy and served iced tea.

What do you like most about Civil Engineering?

I grew up on the surveying side of things… I saw a lot of the preliminary stuff such as boundary (surveys), topographic surveying, tree surveying, as well as some construction staking. After seeing this first hand, I wanted to see how it would develop, which is why I chose Civil Engineering.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

I work out almost every single day, although I also enjoy barbequing, hanging out by the pool, and playing golf. My wife and I’s summer thing has been that I would cook ribs, and we would hang out by the pool. This has been really good during COVID because there is nothing else to do.

If you could live in one place for the rest of your life, where would it be?

I would say somewhere on a small beach house in Florida, or really anywhere on the beach where it is going to be warm all year round.

Is there any advice you would give your younger self, and if so, what would it be?

For myself as a younger Engineer, I would say to develop your contacts early. Get your name out there; be aware of what’s going on in Civil Engineering and build yourself up as an Engineer.
