Travis Elseth Accepted into Leadership Lab

KFW would like to congratulate Senior Project Manager, Travis Elseth, P.E., on his acceptance into the North San Antonio Chamber Leadership Lab’s 2020 class of participants!

Click below to read an interview with Travis about his entrance into & expectations for the Leadership Lab.

What does the Leadership Lab mean to you?

The Leadership Lab is all about setting goals, and then making a specific plan to achieve those goals. It helps you further develop your leadership skills and connects you with a diverse group of people. I hope that by graduation, with increased confidence in my leadership methods, I can have a bigger community impact at KFW.

Which goals did you choose to focus on?

The Leadership Lab separated goals into personal and business/career categories so I prepared my SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, & Timely) for each. My personal goal was to improve my overall health. My professional goal was to increase my leadership influence at KFW and become a representative of my department to Clients and the local design community.

Two other KFW employees, Frank & Mike, have been through the Leadership Lab before. Did they influence you at all?

I had not talked to Frank about it, and actually Armando was the one who encouraged a handful of Project Managers to apply for the program. Mike gave me some advice and a heads-up that I would need to buy a suit.

Do you have any goals for yourself after you've graduated from the program?

I plan on improving my confidence outwardly towards Clients and with the employees on my team. I hope to learn more about conflict resolution and team management, as well as relationship building with Clients. After I graduate I want to be seen as a mentor around the office not only for my team but for all of our Engineers. I also hope to grasp a better understanding of the financial aspects of our business so that I can have a broader role involvement in my department.

Congrats Travis & we wish you the best of luck as you go through this program!
