Gretchen Sellard - Employee Spotlight!

Gretchen is KFW's Project Coordinator and works with multiple commercial teams to ensure their projects run smoothly. Working long hours to assist with all pieces of the submittal process has made her a prominent figure around the office. Gretchen has truly impressed her fellow employees by being a great resource for information. We are lucky to have her!

Why did you choose project coordination?

Project coordination sort of chose me. I was having a hard time finding a job after I graduated college, and I happened to find a job working at Protection Development, Inc. (a.k.a. 'PDI' to most people at KFW) as a Receptionist/Admin and learned the building permit side of things. That is when I learned about platting and it seemed intriguing, so when I had the opportunity to work for a company that involved me in platting, I took that opportunity to learn more about it. As the down turn in the economy affected our industry, I had to quickly learn other aspects of land development submittals and land entitlement processes, which lead me into the project coordination role.

What do you like most about Project Coordination?

For me, seeing the end product of something I have helped with is very rewarding.

Before working at KFW, what was the most unusual or interesting job you've ever had?

I worked at the Guadalupe County Attorney’s office when I was in college. It’s a very different industry than engineering. I also worked at a deli and coffee shop right after college graduation. I was able to see the business side of things and realized how difficult owning a restaurant can be.

"Gretchen is a very hardworking, dedicated, and polite coworker. A great person to work with and a great representation of what KFW is all about." - A. Bustillos

What would you tell yourself at age 13?

Take every opportunity to learn as much as you can because it can open up opportunities that you never thought of.

Any advice for the aspiring Project Coordinator?

Learn as much as you can about the land entitlement process and don’t be afraid to ask questions. It’s also important to introduce yourself to people at the reviewing agencies and take time to establish a good working relationship with them.

Do you have a favorite quote?

"A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new." - Albert Einstein.

What is your goal while working at KFW?

My goal is to always continue learning. Things change frequently in this industry so there is always something new to learn.

"Gretchen is an extremely hard worker, she is here before anyone and is one of the last people to leave. She takes her job very serious and excels at the work she does. Very easy and great person to work with!!" - H. Martinez

Hobbies!

My husband and I like to eat so we enjoy trying out new places to eat with friends on the weekend whether it be breakfast, lunch and/or dinner. It’s sort of become our weekend ritual. I also enjoy watching any kind of Rom-Com movie.

I am always on the lookout for a good bargain when it comes to anything so I enjoy searching for new finds for the house.

Now that it’s football season, I enjoy watching my favorite football team, The Dallas Cowboys.

I try to stay involved with the development task force meetings that are held by the Real Estate Council of San Antonio and the various reviewing agencies.
